□ 디베이팅 개요
√ 목적 : 디베이팅 Structure 미리 익혀오기 → 발화량 증가
√ 주제 : 공지해드립니다.
√ 분량 : A4 1.5 장 이상 (최소)
√ 주의사항
1) 가능하면 쉬운 단어, 알고 있는 단어로 돌려서 설명한다.
Ex1) 활용하다 'utilize, make full use of' [X] → 'use' [O]
Ex2) 피임 'contraception' [X] → 'Method or way to prevent unwanted pregnancy or having a baby.
2) 단어, 문법적 정확성은 크게 신경쓰지 않는다. 그 보다는 '분량'에 집중한다.
3) 사전 예문, 올려준 article의 예문을 최대한 활용한다.
√ Debating 준비 추전 프로세스
Step 1. 한글로 개요를 짠다 or 영어로 개요를 짠다 (키워드 위주, 어려울 경우 Full sentence)
Step 2. 영어로 Full Writing을 쓴다. 이 때, 친숙하지 않은 문장 구조, 예컨대, 비교급, as 형용사 as 등등으 의도적으로 쓰려고 노력한다. 특히, 번역에서 배웠던 문장을 활용한다.
Step 3. Step1에서 쓴 개요만 보고 Speaking을 연습한다. 막히는 부분은 반복해서 연습한다.

□ Writing 예시
1. Intro
Today's motion is about whether we should allow Euthanasia or not. It has been quite controversial for many centuries. [Side] I believe that Euthanasia should not be allowed. I oppose to the motion today.
[Thesis statement] In my short speech, I'm going to do three things. Firstly, I will define keyword relevant to the motion. Secondly, I am going to briefly explain what status quo we have and then lastly, I will make 2 arguments.
2. Definition & Characterization
[Definition] First and foremost, let me define what Euthanasia is. It is also called mercy killing and assisted suicide. I define the term 'Euthanasia' as a medical measurement to help a person, including animals to die.
[More specific definition] Euthanasia should meet certain 2 criteria which I set. First, it should be carried out in a painless manner. Second, it should be carried out under agreements from both doctor and patient. Therefore in case of a patient who is unconscious, Euthanasia cannot be carried out.
[Characteristic ①] When is Euthanasia requested? Usually, a person who wants to undergo Euthanasia is terminally ill. In other words, he or she is suffering without hope to recover. [Characteristic ②] Euthanasia is carried out either by injecting a lethal chemical or stopping necessary medical care that keeps the patient alive.
3. Status quo
In the majority of countries, Euthanasia is against the law. It is not legal. However few countries recently legalize Euthanasia such as Swiss. In Korea, it is definitely illegal. A doctor must be sentenced at least 10 years if he or she helps a patient die even in the painless and peaceful way.
4. Argument 1
= My first argument is we cannot be 100% sure whether a patient will recover or not.
[Reason 1] It is a doctor who diagnoses health condition of patients. It is also a doctor who determines whether patients can recover or not, curable or incurable. The problem is that doctor also makes mistakes because they are also human beings just like us. They can mistakenly diagnose incurable even in a curable case. Therefore Euthanasia can lead to unnecessary death which could be prevented if there is no Euthanasia in the first place.
[Reason 2] Even if a doctor always makes the perfect decision, there are still some cases Euthanasia cause unnecessary death which would be avoidable. What if new medical treatment is invented and developed right after the patient underwent Euthanasia and die?
What if patients recover thanks to a certain organic mechanism which we cannot figure out. You might have heard that one guy who told that he was going to die within 3 months. However, against a doctor's prediction, he lived longer than 5 years, even in every healthy way.
Besides the reasons which I mentioned, there must be more cases that patient could avoid the death and get back to normal life if Euthanasia is not allowed.
5. Argument 2
= Euthanasia will spread the idea that life can be killed under certain circumstance.
In other words, we will consider dignifying of human life more lightly than now.

6. Conclusion.
Because of these two reasons, I believe Euthanasia must not be allowed under any circumstance. Thank you for listening to my speech.
※ Preparation Tips
1. 발음을 모르겠는 단어가 있다 → 사전 찾아 소리 확인 후 5 번 따라 말해 익힌다.
2. 핵심 단어 (자주 쓰는 단어) → 소리내어 반복해서 말해본다. (이 부분 만큼은 입에 완벽하게 익힌다)
3. 어려운 단어를 사용해야할 시 → 쉬운 단어로 길게 길게 풀어서 설명한다.
Ex) 남녀공학
- Bad example: 그냥 사전에 남녀공학 쳐서 coeducation이라고 말함.
1) 듣는 사람이 이해 못할 수 있음
2) 문장을 짧게 말함
- Good example: a school system where both male and female students study in the same classroom.
1) 모두 이해함
2) 무엇보다, 영어를 길게 길게 말하는 연습을 할 수 있음.
4. 절대로 영어 스크립트를 그대로 읽지 않음
→ 1) 한글 풀 스크립트를 번역 연습하거나
→ 2) 한글 or 영어 키워드만 보고 말하는 연습
→ 마치 PT 준비하는 것 처럼!
